Planting Day 1

Willow Update #2

They have been replaced by Ninebark shrubs. These should end up 5 feet tall and wide, much better for the space!

Official OFC Opening!

It's 85° (finally!) and we are enjoying it on the deck! We had been out here a couple times already,  but for very short amounts of time.

Garden Shopping 2014

Since Johannsens closed last fall, we decided to scope out some new garden centers this year and found some great new places!  We did a "preview" last weekend so I could compare prices and selection, then went back today to buy plants.

Places we had been before:

Jung - Continues to be my favorite for vegetables since I can research them ahead of time in the catalog. Flower selection really varies from year to year, they didn't have too much this time.  Good prices on premium annuals (but not much selection) and herbs.

K&A Greenhouse - Great place for premium annuals, and this year they were having a sale 3/$14! I also had coupons.

Fellys - We "discovered" this place last year, it's huge!  Also very good for premium annuals and THE place for impatiens (I realized after I bought them somewhere else...).  Lowest price for flats of 4 packs.

Bruce Company - Didn't buy anything, selection was not great this year and high prices.

Home Depot - Decent prices for slightly larger plants, less of a selection this year for flowers I was interested in and no large tomatoes this time.

New places this year:

Winterland Nursery - Small but very nice selection of premium annuals, and really large selection of shrubs.

Kopkes - Really big store!  Best place for petunias, beautiful but pricey hanging baskets, and a very good selection of perennials.  Had a good price for flats of 4 packs.

Fitchburg Farms - Very new and clean place!  This is a great place for herbs and vegetables and very good flower selection.  They had the lowest prices for premium annuals and herbs, along with a very good price for flats of 4 packs.

Willow update #1

We are going to take out the willows,  they are overgrown and seem to be mostly dead. It looks like rabbits or something were chewing on them and they don't seem to have made it through the harsh winter. We cut them back yesterday,  next step will be to dig them up.
